Kids say the darndest things

My kids never cease to amaze me when they open their mouths. Sometimes I think "what are you talking about" and other times I cringe because I know exactly where they got that exasperated sigh from or that sassy-filled "gosh". Yikes.

But to go along with my recent posts on enjoying every day and every moment, I have to back track a little and tell you some of the darndest things my kids have told me this week, and it's only Wednesday morning.

First of all, you all know how much Lohena, my younger son adores me. He tells everyone that we are boyfriend and girlfriend. He always cuddles and wants to play with my hair. He wants to hold hands and is constantly giving me compliments of how beautiful I am. (Yes, I am worried for when be becomes interested in other girls) Anyway, he and I were at the mall and I went into one of my favorite addictions, I mean stores, MAC cosmetics to recycle some old containers and in doing so I received 3 free lipsticks. After much debate and encouragement, I tried "candy yum yum" the hot, neon pink lipstick, and Lohena and I both agreed  it was for me.

Later in the privacy of our car, he again complimented me and then nonchalantly asked,"mom, you're my girlfriend ya?" With an all-expecting nod I replied, "Yes." Then with a coy smile he asked, "when we go home you want to kiss?"

He was dead serious I knew he was to. And when we got home, he surprised me and planted a big one on me. He was not only proud but laughed and giggled with delight when he saw the bright pink lips on his face. :)

Sunday night my wonderful husband had planned and led Family Home Evening. A weekly gathering with the family to go over schedules, accomplishments, have a short Christ-centered lesson, sing some fun songs and usually follow up with a treat for all. Well, this FHE we learned about how we believe Families Can Be Together Forever. What an amazing and reassuring gift.

Anyway, I did not, I repeat, DID NOT make any dessert this time. So after our amazing lesson, Marcus who so obviously wanted dessert yells out "This family is junk!" Ummm EXCUSE ME?! Did we not just learn to love your family? So Cameron and I went back and forth with our extremely stubborn five year old and apologized that there was no dessert tonight. It eventually escalated which led to a dramatic display of stomping up the stairs and followed with the dreaded four little words, "I hate you mom."

*STAB*IN*THE*HEART*** die mom die....I'm on the floor....

I must admit I knew those words would come one day and I MAY have heard them whispered under a breath before, but this time it caught me by such surprise.

My reaction after just having this lesson on Families can be together Forever....I LAUGHED HYSTERICALLY!!

I know I shouldn't have but the timing of it was so humorous and completely ironic. After I gathered my breath and realized that my laughing made it worse, I managed to spit out, "Sorry buddy, you're stuck with me FOREVER!!!!"

And who said Children weren't rewarding?!?

She found her way into my bed...again. I am such a zombie.

I remember with Marcus, I woke up and changed him, fed him burped him, rocked him and an hour later finally fell back asleep only to do again a few hours later. 

And now, I have no idea what happens. 

Poor third child.

This week for Columbus Day we had an awesome family day. 

We decided to hike Diamond Head to show the kids some of the beautiful things in their own back yard. I don't know what I was thinking taking Layla, but she slept the whole way ( I think she loved it) and to get my sweat on was so worth it. Not to mention the view was gorgeous.

FYI:

Diamond Head is a defining feature of the view known to residents and tourists of Waikiki alike. The volcanic tuff cone is a United States State Monument. While part of it serves as a platform for antennas used by the U.S. government and is closed to the public, the crater's proximity to Honolulu's resort hotels and beaches makes the rest of it a popular destination.

A 0.75-mile (1.1-km) hike leads to the edge of the crater's rim. Signs at the trailhead say that the hike takes 1.5–2 hours round-trip, and recommends that hikers bring water. Although not difficult, the signs also say that the hike is not a casual one: the mostly unpaved trail winds over uneven rock, ascends 74 steps, then through a tunnel and up another steep 99 steps. Next is a small lighted tunnel to a narrow spiral staircase (43 steps) inside a coastal artillery observation platform built in 1908. From the summit above the observation platform both Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean can be seen in detail.

The volcano is a symbol of the worldwide recognition of the Hawaiian Islands; because of this, Diamond Head is widely used for commercial purposes (see Diamond Head (film) and Diamond Head (band)). Many souvenirs from Hawaii and surf shop logos around the world bear the volcano's distinctive silhouette.

Kids Workshop- Fire Trucks

Every first Saturday of the month Home Depot hosts a FREE Kids Workshop, and every month it is something different. This month's theme was Fire Fighters. The boys got to meet  real firefighters, take a tour of a real fire truck, paint and build fire trucks and even play with a fire simulator. It's like a video game extinguisher that allows you put out a digital fire. 

Like always the boys got their certificate of completion and their pin. They even got a little treat for Halloween and cupcake.

Life in Paradise

Well, we have been "home" now for quite sometime and I can honestly say that I and I am sure others are disappointed in my blogging skills, or shall I say the lack of. Things have been pretty crazy here. I finally got a cool new camera (Cannon T1i) and a new computer to keep up with all the pictures I have been taking. So here it goes; Cameron has a new job which he enjoys, but works like crazy. But, we are so grateful for him and all that he does for our family. The kids just play outside all day everyday, and even though we didn't bring a lot here with us, we have already accumulated more than what we have in storage waiting for us back in Washington; at least in toys.

Other than that, Cameron and I are the cub masters in our ward's Cub Scout program, which we enjoy very much. Marcus and Lohena play at the local YMCA every week while mommy gets a break, I mean a work-out and next week Marcus will be starting a transitional preschool program at Pearl Highlands Elementary. Lohena runs a muck like always, and I have re-kindled a few childhood friendships and my love for volleyball. In fact, my women's team will be traveling to the Big Island this month to compete.

I am not one for change, and I have been struggling every day with this new chapter in my life. However, I promise I will get back to blogging and my passion for life; because there are too many good things in my life not to share.

Seattle Aquarium

Marcus and Makana both were too afraid to touch any of the "petting" creatures, but they had so much fun; Marcus asked the other day to go back! I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be at home with my children and to make special memories with them. Today, Marcus kissed me and said, "I soooo love you mommy!" I hugged him and thought I never want him to grow-up, what a fun and precious age we are in.
I am trying to enjoy every moment, because I know it won't last forever. I Love You Marcus!
