Happy Anniversary! {7 years}

Seven years ago today Cameron and I were sealed in the Laie, Hawaii Temple. I can hardly believe it has been that long ago. I will admit sometimes it feels like a lot looooooonger than that. Yesterday we ditched the kids and spent the night at the temple. It was such a wonderful way to spend our anniversary. After a wonderful session at the Laie Temple, Cameron and I did some sealings. It was special to kneel there for another couple and feel the spirit, remembering our own marriage in the same temple.

I am not going to get all mushy, instead I am going to try to think really hard and pull out some stats:

In the last 7 years we have,

-been pregnant twice

-have 2 children :0)

-bought and owned 11 cars

-lived in 6 places

-attended 5 different wards

-own 2 mortgages

-met Ray Allen

-met Kate Hudson

-attended a few professional sports games

-helped Marcus through 2 surgery's

-paid off close to $100,000 in debt

-took the whole family to DISNEYLAND!

-witnessed 2 of my my siblings get married in the temple

-got a stamp on my passport, Victoria B.C.

-drove to Utah in the snow to be with Kahi

-coached volleyball and basketball (cam and me)

-became the cub master

It's getting late and before this gets any more lame I will just stop. LOL. It may seem a little uneventful to you but the memories are enough to last a life time. Thank you to my husband who woks hard to provide for our family and for my children who irritate the heck out of me.

Here's to an eternity more to go!

Our tree is finally up.

It is decorated and shining.

It stands a little taller than four feet but it's symbolic presence is that of a giant.

The children know that it is the Christmas Season.

Our little home is filled with the smell of pine, and the lights shine bright.

The kids looked forward to the weekend, where we could pick up the tree and

Marcus picked this little guy out and he fits perfectly in our home.

With the Christmas music playing, Cameron and I watched the kids in their Santa hats decorate the tree.

Marcus and Lohena couldn't stop talking and bouncing around they were so excited!

This year feels so different.

The hustle and bustle hasn't really hit me yet,

the shopping is done and there wasn't much that the kids asked for.

I think this year with the boys being a little older will be a good opportunity to teach them about the true meaning of Christmas.

I am so thankful to have Christ in my life. He leads us, comforts us and died for us.

This season is a celebration of his life.

Marcus' First Day of SCHOOL!

Today was Marcus' first day of Pre-School. Yes, it is a little late in the school year, but nevertheless, he is officially a student. He attends 5 days a week 7:30-11:30, a perfect transition, except the waking up early part; we are ALL struggling with that one.

Well, what happened was by the time I decided to really look into the whole school situation for him, I was screwed. I had literally missed every cut-off possible for Marcus or financial aid. I cannot even begin to tell you how infuriating the public school system is here in Hawaii and how expensive the Private School situation is either, but I don't want to ruin a perfectly good post for my big-boy, on that crap.

So, back to the the topic at hand. I finally got on the wait list for Makakilo Baptist and an opening came up. We thought long and hard and enrolled Marcus, that's why he is starting so late. Anyway the fist day was a complete success! He LOVED it.

There were no tears shed by my big boy. I'm not gonna lie I cried and so did Hena-boy, but I couldn't tell if it was for Marcus or because he didn't get to stay at school. DON'T worry fellow moms, I held it together until I turned the corner. phew. I guess all the hesitation I was experiencing this week when making a decision to send him, might have actually been from me. hmmm...no one ever said letting them grow up was going to be easy.

Anyway, he stayed, he listened, he played, he said the Pledge of Allegiance, he held the flag and before I knew it, me and Hena came to pick him up. Hena ran to him and gave him a huge hug and said "bruddah I missed you"! I guess "special" one-on-one time was a little boring for Hena boy today. Anyway, he is excited to return and I cannot believe that my baby is in school.

Tonight, regretfully I was a little hard on him. I felt horrible. He really is such a good kid, poor thing being the oldest. Marcus I do want you to know that mommy and daddy love you so much and are so grateful to have an obedient son like you. I hope that you will never forget how happy we are to have you in our eternal family and how proud we already are of you! I love you!

When I think of Lohena I think of my love-bug.

Hena-boy made 2 this past July. Where has the time gone.

My sweet, easy-baby is growing everyday.

He has his papa Heide's big hands, his father's mischievous smile, sensitive like his mother and intuitive and quick to learn.

Every morning my cuddle-bug stumbles into my bed.

I don't even think he know he does it. I wake every morning with him playing with my hair, and him sucking on his two fingers (middle and ring).

He is stubborn, loving, and kind.

He is sweet and funny.

He makes me laugh every day.

And he has the role of being the "baby" down.

I am such a sucker for him.

He has no fear.

He is willing to try anything and will jump off of anything.

He is a daredevil.

I know that I will have my hands full with him in the future.

I love you Hena-Boy!

This weekend I had the opportunity to attend a 101 Financial Student University. If you are new to my blog you might be wondering what 101 Financial is.

This is Marcus.

My fun-loving, creative, extremely stubborn and shy 4-year old.

It's funny.

I've been trying to upload these photos of him to mark his 4 year old shots, all-day now. Only now I have been able to sit down and blog. Ironically, here I am trying to be sweet and sentimental of where-oh-where-has-the-time-gone, kind-of post all the while

Marcus is screaming in a full-blown tantrum in his room.

I cannot help but giggle to myself.

I'm sure my neighbors at this very moment think I am beating my child senseless. If only they knew he was doing it to himself.

This kid is a funny one to explain.

My mom says he and I are the same.

I guess this is payback.

Beside the occasional temper tantrum Marcus really is a good kid.

He listens and picks up quickly. He is a great big-brother, he loves to learn.

He draws until the pen run out of ink and sings "It's a Small World" every single day.

He wants to please others and is so scared to try anything new. He keeps me on my toes and reminds me of why it is such an amazing pleasure to be his mother.

Marcus, I love you and hope that you have a life filled with love, adventures and wisdom.

I was so proud of Marcus he rode all the rides by himself. He thought it was so fun. The airplane one made my tummy go up and bit, but Marcus laughed so hard. He even rode the helicopters and the dragon ride. I cannot wait for Disneyland!

Pineapple Express

For Marcus' last field trip for his pre-school group we went to the Dole Plantation. We got to ride the Pineapple Express, a 2o minute train ride that tours the pineapple fields and grounds. We were able to see all kinds of pineapple, sample some fresh cut pineapple, and even had some pineapple sorbet. yum! If you get a chance, take a ride on the Pineapple Express!

Waikiki Aquarium

The Waikiki Aquarium is a great attraction for families and children in the Honolulu/Waikiki area. It is small and quaint but to the point. Although, the young ones dictate the tour and the speed of the tour we were out of there in just an hour. It is the perfect amonut of time to view the exhibits, hold a hermit crab in your palm and eat a snack lunch. There is not snack bar, but there is a large, grass field where the kids can burn off some extra energy or have a picnic. All-in-all the price was right and the time was priceless.

Located in Waikiki, Children under4 are free, admission is $6 with kama`aina ID!

I got this little end table for free and sprayed it blue, found this clock for $20 and sprayed it black, and my favorite, Cameron built me my farmhouse dinner table. Don't worry, I'm sure I will be posting soon enough how cluttered my house is.

Families For Real Pre-School

Marcus started Preschool.
That sentence makes me feel proud, happy, sad, and old.
I cannot believe that my little boy is starting preschool.

He was super apprehensive about it, but now he looks forward to it. It is a transitional school that encourages the families to participate. We go once a week and I pack him a lunch, he brings his backpack, he paints, sings and plays basketball, he even made some friends. he is doing so well, at the end of school he said, "Mom, I think we can go back again."

He brushed his teeth, wore his new outfit Great Grandpa Durrett bought him, grabbed his sack lunch and bag and told me to hurry up! He said, "we're gonna be late already." He is learning to write his name, so he can get a library card.

Not bad.

This kid makes me nervous. He is so clingy, and like his mommy afraid of anything new. But slowly, slowly, he is making progress. So proud of you Marcus.

These are a few pictures of our new little place. It is a little messy because I took these on the moving day.

We had a bunch of left over decorations from Marcus' birthday party last year, so I thought why not decorate their room. Marcus taped everything up himself, and Lohena pulled it all down again. Anyway, the boy's had a blast decorating their room.

A new mommy house

Well, we finally did it. Yep, we moved out.

I finally found a place close to Cameron's work, my parents,

Target and Costco that was not only move in ready, but an unbelievable price (for Hawaii).

We are just a few miles away from my parents, but in our own cozy, little space.

A place we can call our own.

As stressful as the move has definitely been,

we are ready to rock `n roll in our new place,

beside the few major details, like we don't have any furniture besides our beds-

Other than that, the kids are so excited and they are loving their new space.

I will post some pictures soon.

But for now, here are some recent pics of the kiddos.

As exhausting as they are, I live to see their beautiful, smiling faces

and be knocked over with bear hugs.

Side note: This week end Kahala (my sister) watched the kids while Cameron and I moved.

In sequence

For Christmas this year, all Marcus asked for was a fishing pole. What 3 yr old asks for that? Well, he got his wish, a Buzz Lightyear pole to be exact, among many other things, and he made us all proud with his very first catch. While Lohena ate all the bait, my brother Kahi and Marcus patiently awaited for that single, most-fulfilling "bite". I couldn't believe how calm and focused he was when it came down to it. Kahi gave him instructions and he listened and followed. Granted the fish were so small, but the experience and memories were huge and will last a life time. Thank you uncle Kahi for taking us, we will never forget.

Mrcus says he needs to take his daddy back and teach him how to fish. :O)

Life in Paradise

Well, we have been "home" now for quite sometime and I can honestly say that I and I am sure others are disappointed in my blogging skills, or shall I say the lack of. Things have been pretty crazy here. I finally got a cool new camera (Cannon T1i) and a new computer to keep up with all the pictures I have been taking. So here it goes; Cameron has a new job which he enjoys, but works like crazy. But, we are so grateful for him and all that he does for our family. The kids just play outside all day everyday, and even though we didn't bring a lot here with us, we have already accumulated more than what we have in storage waiting for us back in Washington; at least in toys.

Other than that, Cameron and I are the cub masters in our ward's Cub Scout program, which we enjoy very much. Marcus and Lohena play at the local YMCA every week while mommy gets a break, I mean a work-out and next week Marcus will be starting a transitional preschool program at Pearl Highlands Elementary. Lohena runs a muck like always, and I have re-kindled a few childhood friendships and my love for volleyball. In fact, my women's team will be traveling to the Big Island this month to compete.

I am not one for change, and I have been struggling every day with this new chapter in my life. However, I promise I will get back to blogging and my passion for life; because there are too many good things in my life not to share.

Marcus and I decorated and carved our pumpkins today. I love doing stuff like this with him, and he loves it too. He wanted to help, but after a few minutes, his hand hurt and he didn't help clean out the pumpkin because he didn't like his hands getting so dirty. Although, I did most of the "hard" work, it was worth it!

We went to 808 Bounce in the mall a couple of weeks ago for a friends birthday party. The kids were excited to go, but when we got there Marcus was too afraid to go in. We even tried to convince him to g in because the baby needed him. :o). An hour and a half later, Marcus finally went in, and never wanted to come out! Geez kid!

My sweet little Lohena thinks he is a big boy! He is still sweet and cuddly, but he is run on curiosity and independence. If he is not jumping off the couch into the laundry basket, climbing the trees, golfing in the backyard, eating every one's food, reading a good book, then chances are he is asleep. He is the definition of BOY.

Today he decided that he too wanted to be a big boy. He made papa but the underwear on him, and he is so proud, he won't take them off. If only I could get him to use the bathroom!

Since we've been back in Hawaii all the kids want to do is be outside. So this year we were so excited to celebrate Marcus' 3rd birthday outdoors. Marcus was so excited for his "happy day" we decided to have a Toy Story party at Moanalua Gardens. It is a perfect park nestled off the main road, in a perfect

location to let kids run free. Set on acres of open land, there is a little pond filled with ducks and koi fish.

Although we were a month late in celebrating, we came through and pulled it together. All week it rained, first time since we've been home and I thought just my luck. But it turned out to be a gorgeous day! Everything was perfect, all of our friends came and we had great local food from Pat's Piggery. We played games, feed the fish, had a Pinata (that I made) and a cool Buzz lightyear cake that Cam and I stayed up late making! It was perfect, except poor little Marcus woke up with a fever, and was not a very happy guy the whole day. He is much better now though.

Changes

There have been so many changes in the last few months and we have been so busy, that I have to apologize for not posting.

But I am back and in full force.

No I am not pregnant, but Cameron and I have moved the family back to Hawaii, and it has been a whirlwind of events. After all the packing and painting, we are finally settling in and are back on our schedule. So needless to say, I will be back on the blog.

New Special Shoes

Marcus got another pair of "special shoes" the other day, and hopefully his last. This has been our lives for the last 2 1/2 years, so it will be strange when we won't need them anymore. We were going through an old box of shoes, when Marcus saw his first pair that he wore at just 3 months old. He was laughing while holding the small shoe and said, "Mommy, so cute."

Marcus has club foot, but he is doing great.

I have to apologize, I have been meaning to post this clip of the baby for some time now, however, it keeps getting pushed back beacuse as you can see, I have been so busy. The video isn't the best, it is really short so it would upload fast; but oh well, you get the point.

My little Lohena, lovingly reffered to as "baby brubber", and as which he responds to, has decided to start walking. Early last month he started standing up and taking a few steps here and there. He is practically running and crawling is no longer an option. Walking at 10 months may have been applauded as a first child, but now that I have two, that now means double the trouble. I often look at him bewildered as to where my baby has gone. Needless to say, I am both sad and excited for a new stage in baby brubber's life.

So, here you go mom, sorry it took so long for me to post!

This past Memorial weekend, will be without a doubt one of the many family trips we will remember; partially because it was our first official Heide Family Vacation, and because it was the first time I got to leave the country. Cameron surprised us all by taking us to Canada for the whole weekend, just us...and yes, we survived!

This was the first time, just us four vacationed; alone. It was so much fun and yet totally and completely exhausting! We took the Clipper up to Victoria B.C. Canada, and decided not to take a car...so just because I was on vacation didn't mean I vegged out.

I took so many pictures, too many for blogger probably, but I promise I will share some of the cool things we did. Like touring an old-style authentic castle, my hunt for a bakery, antique row, the cigar shop we just had to stop in, the beautiful waterfront and gorgeous Parliament building.

We stayed in a cute Chateau hotel in a 2 bedroom suite (good job Cameron!) not too far from the waterfront. But there was this street we continued to pass, and every time I thought of my little sister, Alana Yates.

This falls into the category of doing more and seeing more. I am truly thankful that we are able to make these memories. I would never have imagined being able to or being able to afford vacations like these a few months ago. However, after we were able to pay off our $13,000 car in 6 months, we are continuing to work on our mortgage, but we can seriously feel the financial freedom, allowing us to make trips like these possible. www.101financial.com/camkam

Marcus and Makana both were too afraid to touch any of the "petting" creatures, but they had so much fun; Marcus asked the other day to go back! I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be at home with my children and to make special memories with them. Today, Marcus kissed me and said, "I soooo love you mommy!" I hugged him and thought I never want him to grow-up, what a fun and precious age we are in.
I am trying to enjoy every moment, because I know it won't last forever. I Love You Marcus!

A few weeks ago, my good friend, fellow BYUH Volleyball player and college roommate, Silvia, came to visit for the day. She currently works for the Princess Cruise line Ship. We took the kids on board and they had a blast; even Cameron left work to participate in the all-you-can-eat buffet, and ice cream bar, the huge game and kid rooms. We toured the vessel, filled with a casino, dance halls, theatres, marriage chapel and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Needless to say, the kids had a blast. Thank you aunty Silvia, we love you! I hadn't seen Sil in almost 5 years, so it was really nice to catch up. She was in my wedding line, and she is one of my best friends, like picking up where we left off. Love you! XOXO

Pretezel Tree Trail

Last weekend was just so nice, we decided to go on a family hike. One of my goals this year was to see more and do more in Washington. So, we took the kids to the Pretzel Tree Trail. It is a short loop (0.1 mi. to be exact with a 1 foot elevation) filled with storyboards that tell the story as you go. It was actually very cute and perfect distance for Marcus.

A friend of ours, his father-in-law was a former CEO of a popular cooking line in the 70's called, Rena Cookware. They were cleaning out their garage, when they found boxes and boxes of unopened cookware. They didn't know what to do with it all, so I graciously volunteered to take them in and give `em a good home! :)

If you know my dad you will not only laugh out-loud at this picture, but you will agree that this picture captures the very essence that is my father. This hard-working, business man knows how to hang up his "Aloha Shirt" and rock out to Beatles Rock band. He is constantly surprising us all by volunteering to take me to the swap meet on a BUSY Saturday morning; he has been seen venturing out to Walmart, by himself; and even takes credit for fixing things around the house. But best of all he does a fantastic "daddy dance". {you'll have to see it to believe it!}

Well, the other day my mom sent out a mass text message about poor dad. Poor, because his lip was swollen. Why? Because a centipede bit him. Yup...a centipede bit his lip! I know, I know, How? He was snoozing on the living room floor, and mom summoned him upstairs. Before he got up to leave, he rolled over to grab his glasses. Wouldn't you know it, he rolled right on to the centipede (who may have also been snoozing) and it stung him right on the lip. I guess you could say it was his own dang fault. Love you dad!

I absolutely LOVE my mother. She is one my best friends, some one I can trust, count on, look for guidance, suppot and know, will always love me. She is the total embodiment of the true Aloha spirit. She gives and gives without thinking twice, putting herself last. She has a strength that is only born through discipline and earthly and spiritual experiences. She is constantly growing and sharing her experiences with her children, helping us to learn. She has a great style and fashion sense and always makes me laugh. She is a cool grandma who is game for anything. I am so thankful for her and hope she knows how much I missed her and love her on this special day.

I am so thankful that I live so close to my mother-in-law! Before I moved to Washington, I barely knew her. Today I can say, I love and respect this wonderful woman. She took us in and cared for us until we got our feet on the ground. She loves my children and is always giving to them and us. I enjoy talking with her and listening to the stories and advice she has to offer. She is always thinking of us and giving, not to mention she is a great cook. We "drop" in on her to see her a few times a week, and usually stay to eat all her food. Thank you for all that you do! We LOVE you!

A Legacy through Food

This is "tutu" with Marcus, when he was a baby. She is such an important part of our family. She is the rock and strength that holds us all together. She loves life, her 6 kids, 21 grand kids and 12 great grand kids (I think I got `em all) She is extremely talented. If you know her you will agree. She quilts beautifully, weaves lauhala extraordinarily, and is without a doubt the best cook in the family! She has passed down some of her awesome recipes, and I am so thankful that I get to share them with my family.

Marcus and I made tutu's monkey bread the other day for dinner. What better fitting than monkey bread for a bunch of monkey's? When Cam came home he said, "Wow. Where did it all go?" Marcus and I just looked at each other and smiled! :)

Yesterday Marcus had ear surgery. He is doing GREAT! I was told he would probably sleep all day and possibly even be loopy; boy were they wrong. He came home around 8 am and by 8:05 he was back to himself-jumping off the couch running around being CRAZY! The poor boy had 100% blockage in his ear! No wonder he spent so much time in time out...he couldn't hear! HA!

Anyway, he is recovering quickly, very quickly and little Lohena, who isn't so little anymore is trying to walk. Yesterday he took one step and fell over. YIKES!! I just LOVE these boys!

Meet the Beast: Update Part 2

This month, we were able to pay off "the Beast" as you just saw. I will have to say, I saw that some of you voted against me (don't worry I won't hold it against you) it certainly seems crazy; radical, and unconventional. It is, and yet so SIMPLE!

As soon, as we get the title, I will post it for you all to see. One less debt just means more cash in my pocket!

I just wanted everyone to know that Cameron and I accomplished this on 1 income and without changing our lifestyle. You do not need to have a lot of debt to utilize the 101 program; and it will still work for you if you have 3 homes (mortgages) and 16 cars (loans)! Marcus 1 week old September 2007

For my more recent followers, you may or may not know that our eldest son Marcus was born, with a club foot (a deformity which causes the foot to appear as if it is rotated internally at the ankle). We were completely shocked and had no idea because it was not caught during the ultra sound. Needless to say, I was not only exhausted physically, after labor, but the next few days that followed I was emotionally drained.

I was a little heart-broken, but mainly for my brand new, perfect little baby. After the initial shock and many tears, I knew that this was just the way it was going to be. So, I pulled myself together for my family, for Marcus and learned all about his club foot. I educated myself, told my friends and family and found a fantastic Dr. (Laurel Saliman, Swedish Orthopedic Specialist).

In the beginning I couldn't even look at the pictures of other children's feet on the pamphlets, it simply made me uneasy. But as time went one, I knew that we were lucky because his case wasn't so severe. Only his left foot, and I knew it really could have been a lot worse.

After one week following his birth, he was placed in a series of set casts (up to the thigh to protect his knee). We did this process for about 3 months. On the final cast Dr. Saliman cut Marcus' Achilles tendon, casted his foot in a proper position and allowed it to re-attach. It was traumatic for Cameron and I since Marcus was awake and we each took on a limb to hold him down.

After the 3 months of casts he was placed in "special shoes" (with the bar between) for another 3 months, straight, 23 hours a day. This was extremely difficult and is when we really had to trust our Dr., each other, and know that if we didn't do this, there was potential for relapse. This procedure is less abrasive, but very, very slow; taking anywhere from 3-5 years. In previous years, all the bones were broken and re-set usually causing arthritis at a very young age.

Since Marcus was 6 months old he has worn his shoes everyday of his life. Naps and Nights. He is scheduled to do this until the age of 5. (Very expensive little shoes....but worth every penny!)

However, last week we went for our 2 1/2 year check-up. Dr. Saliman was so happy with his progress and foot function, she said she is considering him being done wearing his shoes at age 3. That is less than 6 months away!! If we do, it will be a brief 6 month trial without shoes and hopefully never again.

I left the office, SHOCKED and wondering how WEIRD our life will be without night-time shoes. This has just become the norm, that anything else just seems weird!

Marcus has developed normally walking at 12 months, running, jumping, and tippy-toeing all around. I even catch him walking in his special shoes and jumping around in them. (professional snowboarder/surfer?)

I am just so thankful for all of the experiences to learn and grow from our trials and more importantly our blessings!

happy EASTER...egg hunt

This week leading up to Easter Sunday was surely an ugly one. The power flickered on and off, the trees shook in the wind, and the icy rain kept us indoors for most of the days. It was especially unfortunate since this week also happened to be Spring Break.

Despite the typical Washington weather, the kids had an absolute blast hanging out. We played outside when we could, we dyed Easter eggs, we attended an Easter egg hunt in the highlands, which ended in cold, wet, kids, crying and covered in mud. Miles and Marcus have finally reached the point of playing together in another room without supervision. So needless to say, it was CRAZY but tons of FUN!

I am so thankful that we were able to watch General Conference together as a family this Easter Sunday. I have a testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and know that our Prophet Thomas S. Monson is called of God to lead us away from temptation and keep us on the strait and narrow. I am eternally grateful for my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, for through them all things are made possible. I am grateful for the atonement of Jesus Christ and for the sacrifice he made for us. I have a testimony of the Plan of Salvation and know that it is our duty as parents to rear our children in the right path that will lead them to salvation. I know that I will never truly and fully understand the amount of LOVE that the Lord and Jesus Christ demonstrated, and for that I am humbled. I cannot wait until that day when I will be able to return to Heavenly Father, with my eternal family by my side.

With the exception of night time, we are proud to announce that Marcus is potty trained. It was literally out of nowhere. One day Marcus just decided he was done wearing diapers and wanted to use to toilet. I introduced him to the toilet a few months back, but it didn't really stick; but now he enjoys using the potty and sometimes just sits there! I don't even have to ask him, he just goes to the bathroom and does his business. Today was the first time we went out for a long time, so I put a diaper on him, but while we were at the restaurant, he took care of some business there! I am just so proud of him.

Good times...

As you know this trip was short. Kind of a tease. As I have gotten older and so have the children, it truly gets harder and harder to leave. Finally Marcus is comfortable around my family, and finally he and Kira are best buds. Marcus played so hard I hardly saw him. My mom was afraid he wasn't going to warn up to her and the first day we got in he wanted to go with grandma and uncle piko by himself. The next day he went with grandma to work. Everyday when Kira went to school he was so bummed and waited patiently for "dira" to return. We indulged in custard filled malasadas, shave ice with mochi, snow cap, and ice cream (dang thing cost $5) and lots of plate lunch. Even though Marcus kept telling grandma "Hawaii hot" he didn't want to leave her behind. And when grandpa dropped us off at the airport, and he didn't understand I struggled to fight back tears! As Cameron always says give me a week and I'll be fine. ;o)

I miss my family so much and am so thankful for all that they have given me.

Thank you for raising me in such a beautiful place. Thank you for exposing me to such a loving and extremely unique culture that cannot compare. I have truly been blessed to be so loved, I hope I can give the same things to my children.

We survived the TSUNAMI

In my family we call it "Durrett Luck". The can't-catch-a-break-all-you-can-do-is-laugh kind of luck. Although I may be a Heide now, the blood of the Durrett still runs strong. Needless to say, of course the already super short week that I am home, is the week that Hawaii has a tsunami warning and I am confined to the house all day with nothing to do; but listen to the same spiel on the news and fall in and out of some much needed sleep!

Luckily , we were able to keep ourselves entertained with Beatles Rock Band. {Marcus' favorite}

For those of you who have boys, you can attest to the FACT that boys are different from girls. They are just manufactured differently. They are born with these innate traits; traits that are not taught, just instilled in their minds and bodies.

For example, no one told my Marcus to take his cars and zoom them all around, he just does it. No one told him to fart on daddy's head, he just did it and laughed hysterically. No one told him that every time he is naked he needs to touch "it"; but he just does.

Recently he has been obsessed with a few things:
1. His basketball uniform that he has sported in probably every post.
2. His birth mark.
3. His, "you-know-what"
4. and his muscles.

He loves superman! I will catch him standing on the side table, muscles out, diving head first into the sofa, yelling, "suppppppermaaaaaaannnnnn"!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Unfortunately this year Valentine's Day fell on a Sunday. When I say unfortunately, I mean that for us "Mormon's" who believe in keeping the sabbath day holy, we were forced to celebrate on the Saturday before. I call it, "Mormon Valentine's Day." Well Saturday Cameron had to work, all day. Needless to say I was pretty bummed. However, Sunday proved me wrong. I woke up to a wonderful breakfast, enjoyed the day at Church with my family and then had the missionaries over for a "Valentines Special Message". The night before Marcus and I made tons of cookies for nursery, so at the end of the day I was full- spiritually and physically.

This year I decided to be a positive blogger, and I absolutely hate to plague my blog with anything negative, but this is just outrageous. So instead, let's call this a WARNING; a sign of the times. Every once in awhile when I go to check on the boys at night this is what I find. I feel so bad because most of the time Lohena is stuck all the way to his thighs. I dare not touch him or move him, and just pray that he can get out of it on his own. It's cute and funny and nothing I had to deal with before since Marcus had to wear shoes. Maybe I should put the bumper guards back up??

Before I forget, Happy Birthday Elika, you've been a great friend!

On this beautiful day 25 years ago I changed the lives of Mary & Jonathan Durrett forever. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that it wasn't for the better; although, I am sure they had their doubts time and time again. I am so thankful for wonderful friends & family! Good people in my life that have seen me through some rough times, shared some great tears, advice and more importantly some great laughs. I am the person I am today, because of everyone who has touched me in this life.

SO, for my birthday I get to go HOME! In 2 weeks I will be allowing the suns rays to reach out and kiss my skin. I will be rolling around all day in the sand with the kids and making up for it by washing sand out of dark places all week. I will be able to breathe again when I can smell some of the sweetest fragrances, like tiare, awapuhi, plumeria etc. I will get to see the kids with their cousins and grandparents (get to leave them at home with mom) and not to mention that I will be gaining back a few pounds, plate lunch, malasadas and shave ice here I come.
